EPISODE 35- Blue Roo Visits the Neal-Truesdale Team

March 8th, 2012

Blue Roo decided to stop by  and cluck a quick “Cocka-doodle-how-do-you-do?”, to his friends at Neal-Truesdale Insurance . Of course, fun was in no short supply. Jack Neal, the company’s president, is old friends with Jeff Buckingham, Blue Rooster Telecom’s president. When you get two fun guys and a crazy rooster together, you know something goofy is bound to happen. Sure enough, the two men proudly donned chicken hats and did the chicken dance with Roo. They danced like no one was watching, while, actually, a nearby construction team got a good laugh out of the fellows’ antics.

Jack, Blue Roo and Jeff dancin’ it up.

Neal-Truesdale Insurance has been a prominent business in San Luis Obispo for over fifty years. The company was created by two Cal Poly graduates, Robert Neal and Calvin Truesdale, in 1960, and has provided quality personal and commercial insurance in San Luis Obispo ever since.

This May, Neal-Truesdale will partner with NIAC (Nonprofits’ Insurance Alliance of California) in hosting an educational presentation for local non-profits. The presentation will help non-profits better understand how insurance companies can meet their unique needs.  What a great way to serve the community and our local non-profits!

Two women on the  Neal-Truesdale team, Alise and Mary, gave Roo a tour of the office.  The three chatted in the newly-renovated lounge (Roo likes to call it their ‘Zen Den’). Blue Roo was three feet off the ground, as he was the center of attention. He always is!

Blue Rooster Telecom’s Unique Features

February 23rd, 2012

Here at Blue Rooster Telecom, we offer our customers several unique features. As a company serving businesses in San Luis Obispo, we are able to customize our services to the telecommunications needs of our customers. We want our customers to understand what unique features we offer. Below are just a few of our features, and you can also check them out on our website.

1. Hunt Group Presentation

Traditional telephone systems with more than one telephone line will send a different Caller ID on outbound calls depending on which outbound telephone line the caller selects. This situation can make it difficult for the called party to recognize calls from a particular company since they may receive calls from many different telephone numbers. At Blue Rooster Telecom we send the main telephone number as the outbound Caller ID for all calls no matter which line is selected. Sending the common Caller ID allows the called party to easily recognize calls from familiar companies. This feature allows Blue Rooster Telecom customers to have more consistent presentation on outbound telephone calls.

2. Fax Line- Outbound Calls

Many small businesses have a fax line that is used less and less but they are not ready to give up the fax line all together. At Blue Rooster Telecom we can set up the fax line to also be used for outbound calls and in doing so we can send the Caller ID of the main telephone number. This feature prevents callers who “reply” back to the called number from being sent to the fax machine. This change does not interrupt the normal calling for inbound or outbound faxes and allows the customer to make better use of their telephone lines.

An additional feature “Fax to E-Mail” allows inbound faxes to be routed to an e-mail address (or list of e-mail addresses IE: fax@mycompany.com) as a PDF file.

3.Custom Name Presentation on Outbound Calls

Telephone subscribers with Caller ID see a name presented on most inbound calls. This name can be 15 characters including spaces and is entered into the telephone network by your telephone company, usually with no input from the customer. At Blue Rooster Telecom we ask the customer what outbound Caller ID name they want their customers to see. We can enter any letters that will fit within the allotted space. Think of the creative possibilities for presenting your company to customers. An organic restaurant could present “Healthy Food” or a toy store could present “Fun For Kids”.

4. Electronic Billing Statement

Instead of mailing your billing statement, Blue Rooster sends it to you in an email. Not only does electronic billing ensure immediacy, but it is also a practical way to reduce the amount of paper we use. We encourage customers to save the bill electronically and print as little as possible.

EPISODE 35- Blue Roo’s Valentine

February 14th, 2012

Two weeks ago, Blue Roo started preparing for this day. If you remember, Roo carefully selected  dozen red roses with the help of Nikki at FluidBloom Designs, one of SLO’s most popular floral shops.

Since that day, Roo has been working up the nerve to ask out one very special hen. Maltida is a pretty little thing with black speckles, and she lives at Farm Supply Company. Roo met her last year when he had a photo shoot at Farm Supply. Roo hopes the roses, his dashingly good looks and his charm will win over his hopeful sweet heart.

Roo wooing Matilda at Farm Supply

Earlier this morning, Roo visited Farm Supply to ask out the hen of his dreams. Matilda was happy to see Roo, but one of her coopmates, Bernard, may have felt a little threatened by the presence of another male. But once Bernard realized that Roo is a cool bird,  he started to warm up to him.

Roo began his extravagant invitation by reciting a poem:

Roses are red,

Roosters are blue,

Corn is sweet

And so are you!

Then, he mustered up all his courage, and invited Matilda to dinner and a movie- popcorn and Chicken Run. Matilda clucked “Yes!”, and explained that Chicken Run is her favorite movie. Looks like the two lovebirds will have a fun-filled Valentine’s Day.

Reciting his poem to Matilda. Bernard looks on.

Blue Roo wishes all YOU lovebirds out there a fun & goofy Valentine’s Day!

EPISODE 34- Blue Roo Preps for Valentine’s Day

January 31st, 2012

As we all know, Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, and Blue Roo has already started to prepare for the big day. The question on everyone’s mind is: Does Blue Roo have a sweatheart?! If he does, he’s keeping it a secret. Maybe he’ll let us know after February 14th.

This morning, Roo visited his good friend Nikki Caldwell at FluidBloom Designs in the Laguna Shopping Center. The flower shop has been at that location for 25 years, and Nikki came into ownership several months ago. FluidBloom is also located downtown, on the corner of Pismo & Chorro. Blue Roo was on a mission to order a romantic bouquet for Valentine’s Day, and Nikki was there to help him pick out the perfect flowers.

What a romantic rooster!

Nikki is a customer of Blue Rooster Telecom, and  while they were hunting for flowers, she thanked Blue Roo for the friendly and personal customer service she receives every time she calls with a question or needs help with her phones. Blue Roo was so flattered, he dove , beak first, into a huge arrangement of flowers to hide his blushing blue cheeks.

Roo in a sea of flowers.

After a short search, Blue Roo decided on a bouquet of vibrant red roses- one of Nikki’s most popular requests. Roo pre-ordered his flowers, which made Nikki very happy. Pre-ordering flowers ensures that the shop will have the roses fresh and ready for him on the 14th. Blue Roo’s going to tell ALL his friends to pre-order their Valentine’s Day flowers from FluidBloom online or by phone (805-784-0415).

Now we just have to wait and see what lucky chick is going to receive those flowers!

EPISODE 33- What’s “Likes” Got To Do With It?

January 26th, 2012

Today is an exciting day; a milestone for Blue Roo. As of now, Blue Rooster’s Facebook page has 199 “Likes”. He has been waiting by his laptop for hours, waiting for that last “Like” to push his page up to……

Roo is excited that his company, Blue Rooster Telecom is getting great exposure and recognition as one of the most fun and customer friendly telecom companies in SLO.  Blue Roo, however, is more excited for the attention he’s getting on his Facebook page. He’s so happy that more people are looking at his pictures, his statuses, and his funny posts. Now, people are getting to see who the real Ruler of the Roost is: Blue Roo.

Once he gets to taste the power of 200 “Likes”, he’ll want to keep on going. Maybe 300 “Likes” by June? Perhaps 100 followers on Twitter? (Yes, Blue Roo does have a Twitter.) The possibilities are endless.

Whatever the case may be, Blue Roo is working towards being the most popular rooster of 2012…. and beyond! Blue Roo would love for you, his friends, to cheer for him as pass the 200 “Likes” mark on Facebook! Go Blue Roo!!

EPISODE 32- Blue Roo Carpools

January 19th, 2012

During these chilly winter months, everyone on the Blue Rooster Team drives to work- including Blue Roo. Well…. he doesn’t exactly drive (roosters can’t drive, silly). He carpools.

Buckled up and ready to roll.

In order to go on all of his wild and crazy adventures around San Luis Obispo County, Blue Roo has to be driven by one of his Blue Rooster coworkers.  Driving Roo to work is always an adventure in itself. He is quite the backseat driver- he always squawks directions, even though he has no idea how to drive . (He can’t even put the key in the ignition.) He always calls ‘shotgun’, and sings at the top of his lungs as he rides across town, perched up and safely secured by his seatbelt.

Sometimes, when he’s not too wild, his coworkers  let him sit in the driver’s seat and imagine what fun it would be to drive a car.

Dream on, Blue Roo!

Even if he were allowed to operate a motor vehicle, Blue Roo would still choose to carpool to work- it saves money that he would be spending on gas; it causes less damage to our beautiful, SLO atmosphere; and it gives him quality time with his coworkers.

Plus, he gets so much more attention dancing in the car on the freeway than he does dancing in the Blue Rooster office. And we all know Blue Roo will do ANYTHING to get more attention!

EPISODE 31- SLO Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner

January 16th, 2012

It’s that time of year again! The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce will host its 107th annual dinner this Saturday, and Blue Roo couldn’t be more excited. The Chamber’s annual dinner is the longest running annual event in SLO; it might also be the most glamorous! This year, it’s a red bow-tie affair, and Roo cannot wait to get dressed to the nines. He’s excited to see the glitzy side of SLO, because he spends most of his time looking at the side of his chicken coop.

He's what we like to call a chick magnet.

There are sooo many things about this event Blue Roo is looking forward to, including the roasted corn risotto, which is offered as part of the entree. (He’s also very happy that chicken is not on the menu this year!) But above all, Roo is looking forward to the  giving out of  the Citizen of the Year Award. Maybe, just maybe, he will hear his name called this year. Roo was an upright citizen last year: he’s helping to build a local business (he’s the poster-chick), most of his pranks have  been tasteful and harmless, AND he was kidnapped for goodness sake! Doesn’t he deserve to be citizen of the year? Roo certainly thinks so! He’s so humble too.

But, if the award must go to another, Roo hopes it will be his new friend Sparky the Squirrel, who works at Verdin. Sparky is a breakout businessquirrel , has an incredible work ethic, and is a great friend to everyone on the Blue Rooster Team, especially Blue Roo. If he or Sparky wins the award, Roo will be happy.

EPISODE 30- Blue Roo’s New Year Resolution

January 10th, 2012

New Year, New Roo

With 2012 underway, Blue Roo has decided to make some changes in his life. And this time, he’s going to stick to them. In fact, in sharing his list of resolutions, it will help keep him accountable throughout the year.

Goal #1: Exercise Regularly

Roo wants to keep up his stunning physique in 2012, and his old fitness regime just isn’t cutting it anymore. It’s no longer fun or challenging. He’s looking into circuit training, cardio pilates and Bikrahm Yoga. Whatever he decides on, Roo is going to exercise on a daily basis!

Goal # 2: Visit the Vet Frequently

Health is important to Roo, and to ensure that he stays healthy and happy this year, he’s going to have tri-monthly visits to his veterinarian added to his busy schedule. He’s also going to take all the vitamin supplements his vet suggests.

Goal # 3: Read Consistently

Roo has been crazy-busy for the past several months, and he hasn’t had a chance to catch up on his reading. He’s going to re-subscribe to the Farmers’ Almanac to get going on reading again.

Goal # 4: Keep a Clean Nest

Roo’s used to jumping out of his nest at the crack of dawn and heading out before tidying his nest or his coop. He’s decided that things have been piling up for too long, and he’s going to start cleaning up his messy abode every morning when he wakes up,

Goal # 5: Pull More Pranks!

Blue Roo is a prankster – no doubt about it! But he’s been recycling pranks for a while now, and he needs to brainstorm for new and better pranks. He wants to be more innovative and original. Maybe he should read more Mark Twain.

EPISODE 29-Holiday Parade Fun

January 5th, 2012

Celebrating the Most Wonderful Time of the Year

How did the Blue Rooster Team spend the holiday season? Celebrating and goofing off with friends and family, of course! On December 2nd, San Luis Obispo’s annual Holiday Parade, hosted by San Luis Obispo Downtown Association, kicked off the city’s official Christmas celebration. The theme for this year’s parade was “A Beary Merry Christmas”. Blue Roo and the Blue Rooster Team created a float festooned with a gigantic, stuffed and cardboard  bears. At first, Blue Roo was upset that another animal was stealing his spotlight, but was happy once one of the bears decided to carry him at the front of the float.

The parade was a huge success- San Luis Obispo residents flooded the streets and cheered on over 100 passing floats. The Blue Rooster Team (including customers and family members) all wore matching Blue Rooster sweatshirts and zany rooster hats. Everybody loved the hats. Jeff tried to give a hat to a boy in the crowd, and twenty more kids dove to grab it! Too bad there weren’t enough chicken hats for everyone!  The Blue Rooster team had the time of their lives dancing around with Blue Roo and wishing everyone a happy holiday season.

When Family comes to Roost for the Holidays…

December 19th, 2011

One of Blue Roo’s colorful relatives has made a trip to San Luis Obispo for the holidays.  Of course there is always excitement when family is coming to visit but sometimes it can be a bit too much especially when the relative is a bit colorful.  This may be the case with Blue Roo’s colorful cousin “Polychromatic Roo”.  Poly, as he is commonly known, says he loves the temperate climate, beautiful scenery, great feed and an abundant supply of his favorite wines while visiting his cousin Blue Roo.

Poly’s behavior can be a bit abrasive as he likes to crow very early and particularly shrill even after a late night strutting around the coop.  There will be no sleeping late during the holidays for Blue Roo with cousin Poly around.  Poly tends to like to overindulge a bit during the holidays, too.  He can get a bit obnoxious and launch into belligerent discussions on sensitive matters, inappropriate comments around the hens and even wear an occasional lamp shade.  Otherwise, Blue Roo is excited to have his cousin visiting and looks forward to a Happy Holiday season with his friends and family.  He wishes all of his followers a great Holiday season, too.  Cheers from Blue Roo!

Our winery is in a rural location, which is beautiful, but challenging when it came to our phone service. Blue Rooster was able to get a T1 line to us, so we can get back to the business of producing great wine. They have also consolidated all of my telecommunications services into one convenient bill. They are saving us time, and money.
